On Wednesday 9th October we were visited by the ASDA LGV Awareness Team. Their aim is to help our children understand some of the risks associated with using the road and in particular the special challenges linked to very large vehicles such as their lorries.
Each class had a visit from the team and watched an short film showing some of the interesting, unusual and dangerous things that road users and pedestrians do whilst on and around our roads. The ASDA team had taken a camera with them on one of their delivery rounds and filmed the route. The children watched the film and shouted out when they saw something that might be a hazard. There was a lot of shouting out!
The climax was a visit to one of the lorries (you might have seen it in the car park in the morning!). The children were shown around the lorry and trailer and played a game of hide and seek with their teacher. The concept is simple, the teacher sat in the drivers seat with their eyes shut whilst the children stood around the lorry in different places. When the teacher opened their eyes, the whole class had vanished! Actually, they were all in plain site from the side but due to the lorries blind spots the teachers thought their class had disappeared.
We would like to say a big thank you to the LGV Awareness Team for a truly eye opening experience.
