Sports Day a Runaway Sucess

Wilstead held our annual sports day last week.  Expectations were high, valuable merits for the House competition to be earned and the prestigious Sports Cup to be won.  The day dawned bright, sunny and dry and an army of relatives and friends were camped out on the field ready for the start.

Sports Day at Wilstead is run as a two-part competition.  First comes the team based carousel activities in the playground.  The activities include football skills, hockey skills, basketball skill, throwing and balancing. For this part of the competition the children were split into their houses then into small mixed year group teams, each with a team captain.

The second part of the day is the traditional race element.  For this part the children move back to their own year groups and then have girls’ races and boys’ races.  This year we had the traditional sprint races and some obstacle races.  The children gave it their all with some really close finishes and some spills along the way but in true Wilstead style everyone managed to get back on their feet and cross the line, usually to loud cheering from the crowd.

We would like to say thank you to everyone who came and supported the children on the day, all the staff who put in so much effort behind the scenes and of course to the PTA who provided the much needed ice lollies at the end for all the children.

Oh…….And the winner were……..
